The narrative course takes students on a journey to discover all the vital components that must be included when writing an excellent narrative.

Unit 1 – Narrative in a Nutshell

By the end of this unit, students will be able to describe the different types of narrative writing and their functions.

Unit 2 – What’s your story

By the end of this unit, students will be able to describe the difference between a personal and imaginative narrative.

Unit 3 – Sensational Story Starters

By the end of this unit, students will be able to write an interesting first sentence that engages the reader and leaves them wanting more.

Unit 4 – Perfect Protagonist

By the end of this unit, students will be able to understand the essential element that the protagonist plays in a narrative. Students will characterise their protagonist or main character and introduce an antagonist to their narrative.

Unit 5 – Setting the Scene

By the end of this unit, students will be able to write an orientation that correctly introduces the characters and the setting through the use of visual imagery.

Unit 6 – Vivid Verbs

By the end of this unit, students will be able to use strong verbs to make their writing come alive.

Unit 7 – Awesome Adjectives

By the end of this unit, students will be able to develop an understanding of how powerful adjectives can be when used effectively and make their writing as interesting and exciting as possible.

Unit 8 – Dynamic Dialogue

By the end of this unit, students will be able to understand the rules to follow when using direct dialogue in their narratives.

Unit 9 – Create Conflict

By the end of this unit, students will understand that conflict is one of the most important parts of a narrative. Students will be introduced to the different types of conflict and be able to choose the most appropriate to incorporate into their writing.

Unit 10 – Exciting Endings

By the end of this unit, students will understand that the end of the narrative resolves the conflict by identifying how or why it is solved. Students will be able to apply these strategies to a narrative.
